You need a boat licence to operate any vessel that has a motor or auxiliary motor over 6 hp. Tenders are exempt as long as they are not used more than 2nm from the mother ship and have the words ‘Tender to’ and the mother ships registration number clearly printed on the transom. If you operate a personal watercraft (for example a jet ski) you must also have a personal watercraft licence (PWCL). Recreational boats are those used only for recreational purposes and are not for any type of business, trade or commerce.
To get a licence you need to learn the maritime rules and Regulations and demonstrate you can safely operate your vessel. We help you learn the rules with you doing either the theory online (click here for online training) or as a full day face to face course that includes the onwater practical component. You need to contact Sue on 04 2727 5515 to book a day.
When you opt for the online theory training (click here) that can be done at anytime from home at your own pace, then you would have to arrange a mutually convenient time and day for your onwater training and assessments. Bookings are made with Sue Brown via phone or text to 0427275515 email email@example.com or through our enquiries form here.
When you register for Online Training, you are asked to pay a deposit of $110 which is deducted from your full course fees. Balance of fees is due when we do the boatwork. Our online theory is maintained and presented by OLS and is the first and largest online theory provider for Marine licensing in Australia. They provide professional technical support to our clients. You can call Simon on 0413422511 should you have any technical issues.
We offer the largest amount of content of a high standard that is very easy to learn from, even for those with limited literary skills.
Cost for our courses depends on your area. The further West our team has to travel, the greater the expenses we incur and the higher the risk of damage to vehicles and vessels (eg rough roads, wild pigs and kangaroo strikes). Our fee structure works on a sliding scale depending on the area and distances we must travel. Boat licence course fees range from $150 (min for small group bookings) to $250 for remote areas.
Special rates for schools and large groups can be negotiated. Call Sue on 0427275515 for details any time any day. Text if i am out of service range please for quicker response.
Unlicensed drivers may operate a recreational boat or PWC if a licensed driver is onboard supervising and can take immediate control in case of trouble. Unlicensed drivers must not operate a boat or PWC while towing someone else by a line attached to the boat or PWC (for example someone waterskiing or riding a toboggan or tube). If you hold a RMDL or PWCL and accrue 3 or more marine safety infringements or a drink driving offence while operating in Queensland, your licence may be cancelled or suspended.
